The Heritage Jazz Orchestra, led by Luke Malewicz is the premier repertory jazz orchestra in Chicago. It was formed in 2016 with the intention of bringing the best talent that Chicago has to offer and explore classic big band repertoire including Count Basie, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Buddy Rich and Stan Kenton. Since its inception the band has been featured regularly at many premier venues throughout the Chicagoland area including Andy’s Jazz Club, Winter’s Jazz Club and the Jazz Record Art Collective. In addition to its club performances the HJO also presents entire album recreation concerts. It has recreated several albums by the Count Basie Orchestra and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra. The HJO also engages in educational outreach with local organizations including the Chicago Jazz Institute and frequently holds clinics at local area high schools.
